Review of A Woman's Authority Posted 8 months ago

“nothing phenomenal. An average nollywood flick. But it was a change to see a widow enjoy some care from her in-laws. So not quite a typical story- does not start with the usual widow's tale of woe. But the execution of the film falls short of its potential and annoyingly does not end with a part 2. If the director resisted the storyline of spells/charms/disease and had focused on the unfolding human tale- it might have been a good film.”

“Wish Izogn would introduce zero stars. Its not the absence of film stars that is the problem, this film simply lacks a story, a capable director and worthwhile actors. I'm all for supporting new talents but not when they rely on cliche love, teenage romance, overdone sighs, tears and gestures. Izogn- get some good movies quick. Your quantity and quality is dipping.”

“nice job. the part 2 was MUCH more interesting than the part 1. i must say i was heartbroken when Donald gave in to his new wife. i also have to give kudos where due to the realist love scenes in the film. for once, here was a romance that is believable. with that said, Isong could try hard not to make lines as wordy as they are...phrases like "isnt life so sweet" just arent that commonly used. I understand that emem is trying hard to make more intelligent dramas and i appreciate that. i just dont think intelligence should outweigh reality.
Funniest scene - The "he studies demography" line. had me rolling!
Best Actor - Genevieve - she remains extremely natural even when given wordy lines.
Best Point - petty trading is an option instead of prostitution. thanks for highlighting that emem!”

“Get the total experience of endless rounds of gatemen opening gates a million times, sports utility vehicles departing and arriving, and girls entering and leaving the life of a somewhat pompous young man who can’t seem to straighten the truth about his dearest Prisca and her devilishly mean sister Jane and his ill treated live in “lover” Thelma. In any case, are Nigerians really flinging these names on their innocent Onitsha home-made babies?”

“excellent acting and some unusual ideas, but sadly the film is based on an impossible medical premise- trained doctors will operate immediately with such a problem pregnancy. The pregnancy drama is illogical and downright stupidly misleading. Stories about a one year old pregnancy usually are cases of fibroids or cancer. and what is this film saying? "prayers don't work when you're facing occult spells?" or "don't blame men for messing up- they were under a spell by some wicked female?" great actors but better story needed please.”
Review of Heaven After Hell (Lion's Den 3) Posted 9 months ago

“standard story of evil in-laws, with final justice only possible through ghostly apparitions and sounds. Apparently, only ghosts can bring justice to widows and murder victims! Good actors but I find the storyline old, tedious and terribly overused. A 4 part film that should have been just one part since "heaven and hell" continued as a rehash of "hell" in marriage and widowhood. Good acting marred by lack of creative imagination. Sadly, this weeks films are quite uninspiring and so the manageable ones earn our praise. aaaaaah, what can one say- not a bad film !!!”
Review of American Boy Posted 9 months ago

“might be old and definitely not perfect- but its wicked humor and play on avarice is welcome entertainment for those of us new to the film. Mischief brewing young men, a somewhat ambitious lovely girl and the allure of "America" are combined in an unpredictable but very human film. With a good cast and dialogue, I quite enjoyed this one. Having said that, like other viewers, izogn really has to work on improving the overall choice of weekly films.”

5 Stars
“5 Stars. Well earned. Well deserved. this is in fact THE best Yoruba movie i have watched on this site to date. Kudos to the producers, Kudos to Izogn. This film was incredibly well written and done in good taste. Though traditional beliefs play a role, it is free of the witchcraft and 'jazz' that plague so many films.
Because there is no overview i will give a short synopsis. A young couple in love are thwarted by forces they could not foresee. Will the truth come out eventually? Your eyes will stay glued to this screen in order to find out. This is a complicated story with three dimensional characters. More than a mere 'rich beware' story it teaches a lesson that what you see isnt always what you should believe. That people are motivated by their own personal gain when it comes to life and even to tradition. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.

who IS that actress that played the part of the Liberian lady? Is she actually liberian? Do any of the viewers know?”
