Unexpectedly whimsical village drama. A pretty maiden (Mercy Johnson) is wooed by a young man (Kenneth Okonkwor), in a convoluted pathway of love beset by a tradition of child marriage. Sophisticated actress Mercy Johnson captures the whimsical naiveté of a deeply rural girl- I found myself chuckling when she had her first sip of coke, although drinks are really no rarity in villages. Its charm lies in the simplicity of the characters and our empathy with their frustrations as they face tradition and a capricious god.
